A pedestrian was injured after being pinned underneath the wheel of a bus Wednesday night in Hackensack.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. in the area of State Street and Mercer Street, the City of Hackensack Fire Department said in a statement on social media. It happened less than a block away from Hackensack fire headquarters.

“One party had their leg pinned underneath the wheel of the bus and was in severe pain,” the fire department said on social media.

The department said some of the first responders who assisted on the scene included off-duty firefighters who were on their way to fire headquarters for a meeting.

In addition to the fire department, local EMS and paramedic crews also responded along with New Jersey Transit.

The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries is not known. The incident remains under investigation.
