Three people were injured when a building facade collapsed in Melrose.
Around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, police say part of the facade of the building at 395 East 149th St. fell off and toppled down onto three business signs, damaging the entrances of cellphone and perfume stores.
The FDNY filed a complaint to the Department of Buildings, requesting a structural stability inspection. Until then, the damaged section will remain closed off for investigation. News 12 found that the DOB has no recent record of any inspection to the building.
News 12 is told that three people were walking under the signs when the facade fell on them -- two women, ages 42 and 39, and a 50-year-old man. They were recovering from minor scrapes and bruises at Lincoln Hospital.
On Monday evening, workers were boarding up the damaged storefronts and preparing the area for reconstruction.
The building belongs to Melrose LLC, records show. News 12 reached out to the company, which said the manager is not taking calls at this time.
