A third annual summit on Latinos was held today at Lehman College, promoting the strengthening of Latino voices in the city.

The daylong conference addressed the needs and concerns of the city’s Latino population, including issues such as economic development, immigration and education. 

Speakers from the New York City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus, Hispanic Federation and citywide universities came together to hold the event.

Officials say that nearly a third of the city’s population is made up of Latinos. Because of this, hosts say it’s important for Latinos to have the community, so they can be a part of the conversation as well.

The goal of the day is to develop action and policy to be put into place for this generation, and for generations to come. Organizers hope to publish a report from today’s event to make available to the public.
