A fire left eight people injured and destroyed several apartments in Parkchester.
The fire started in a hallway of a building at 1726 Thieriot Ave. at around 6:15 a.m.
Fire officials say seven firefighters and one resident were injured. One of the injured firefighters is in serious condition.
The fire chief says there are four apartments in the building, and the two on the second floor are permanently damaged.
A deli on the first floor of the building also suffered water damage.
One person told News 12 he could smell the smoke from the Cross Bronx Expressway.
Officials say they are still investigating the cause of the fire.
