The FDNY says eight passengers were rescued from a boat that became stuck on the rocky Hart Island shoreline.

It unfolded just before 3:15 p.m. Monday. Retired EMS Lt. Jose Delgado says he witnessed the rescue. He tells News 12 he heard the call on his radio and responded with his personal boat in case his help was needed.

A person aboard the boat video recorded the crew as they escorted the passengers off of what Delgado says was the Island Current 2, a fishing charter boat from City Island.

Delgado says he was on standby, watching the rescue unfold from a safe distance inside his boat, ready to spring into action if necessary.

The former EMS lieutenant tells News 12 that the FDNY had to leave the boat behind - it could only be safely removed during high tide.

According to the FDNY, all eight passengers turned down medical attention.
