New surveillance video is shedding light on a deadly crash in Borough Park that left an 84-year-old man dead and another man hurt.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday near 49th Street and 18th Avenue. Police say Noach Klein, 84, of Williamsburg, was one of two men hit by a white Ford Transit van driven by a 38-year-old man.
In the video, you can see the van approaching as the two men—both dressed in black—not in the crosswalk. The footage is paused before the impact.
After the crash, video shows emergency crews rushing to help. On the ground, a hat and a pair of broken glasses were left behind—a stark reminder of how serious the crash was.
Klein was taken to Maimonides Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Police say the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is still working to figure out what led to the crash.
