AAA estimates a record 80 million people will travel for the holiday.

Ty Skarupa lives in Norwalk and will only be going as far as Milford to celebrate Thanksgiving at her in-laws house.

Her daughter, however, will joining the 72 million people AAA predicts to be on the road this year; 1.3 million more people than last year.

"My daughter is traveling from Savannah, Georgia, she's actually driving with her boyfriends family," explained Skarupa.

AAA Northeast spokesperson, Lauren Fabrizi the trend comes after big travel earlier this year, "We saw record travel for fourth of July week, road trip travel was very popular this summer, that's carrying over into the fall."

About 6 million people are expected to catch domestic flights. While international travel is up by 23%, this could be in part because the cost for those flights is down 5%.

AAA says worst days to travel are the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Monday after.

"If you do have to leave the Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving, if you could leave as early in the morning, that's what we recommend as well as the Sunday after Thanksgiving."

Meanwhile, Skarupa anxiously awaits her daughter's arrival for the holiday season, "I don't know what time they'll be back, but I can't wait to hug her!"
