8h agoA coalition of over 20 state lawmakers and advocates are kick-starting a new effort to help save New Yorkers money on home heating bills.
The All-Electric Building Act is a new bill that would save hundreds of dollars per year in heating costs for families in newly built homes. The lawmakers and advocates are calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul to put the new bill in her upcoming budget.
The initiative comes as Con Edison has warned of a 32% rate increase for winter energy costs, and National Grid predicts a 39% spike in heating bill costs this winter. Legislators say that this far exceeds the national average of 28%.
