Airbnb has partnered with the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation to launch its "Open Homes” medical stay in New York, to offer free temporary housing near hospitals for people undergoing cancer treatment.
The program would allow hosts to open their homes for free. Airbnb will not collect a charge.
“It's the peace of mind knowing that you can stay near your treatment and you don't have to worry about how much it costs,” says Liz Debold Fusco of Airbnb.
The company says anyone can be a volunteer, but they encourage people to check out their buildings' regulations first.
Organizers say it’s one less thing cancer patients will have to worry about.
“It takes off a huge burden off their plate that they can now focus on getting well,” says Christina Merrill, CEO of the Bone Marrow Foundation.
