A unique medical science training program in the Bronx is helping students earn both an M.D. and a Ph.D. at the same time.
The Medical Scientist Training Program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine has been around for 60 years, admitting about 15 students per year. Students split their time between medical research and clinical care, bridging the gap between science and patient treatment.
Program director Myles Akabas says they’re training future leaders in biomedical science. He tells News 12’s Lindsay Tanney that prior research is key to success when applying.
Applications for next year’s class are open until Dec. 1.
