Gov. Kathy Hochul has called for a special session for lawmakers Thursday to discuss new gun safety laws for the state.
It comes on the heels of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn New York's law that required people to prove a specific need to carry a concealed gun in public.
Officials are looking to enact new laws with the confines of the high court's decision. Lawmakers want restrictions on concealed weapons in sensitive places like government buildings, bars and schools. They are also looking into requiring training for anyone applying for a permit.
