While the idea for a vegan street fair may have come to fruition in California in 2014, Bronx native, Jessica Cruz decided the bring it back to the borough that inspired it.
"I could've done this anywhere," says Cruz. "People we're like do it in Brooklyn, do it in Manhattan, do it Queens, but the Bronx needs it more than anyone."
While healthier options for cuisine are still making their rounds in the Bronx, seeking out a singular establishment for vegan options can be scarce. That's where the Vegan Street Fair steps in.
"When it comes to vegan food, there's a food dessert in the Bronx, says Courtney Grace, CEO of CG Candle collection and fellow vendor at the Vegan Street Fair. "Definitely this street fair is just a little piece of something that can bring some alternatives and allow everyone to see what the vegan world is about."
The Vegan Street Fair brings out crowds of vegans and foodies alike, all looking to try something healthier and unique.
"It's really cool to see something like this in the Bronx," says Zack Santigo. "I've been Vegan for five years, and being somebody from the Bronx, it's really cool to see that this gets represented."
Street fair goers can expect to enjoy both vegan and vegan-friendly food, live music from a Dj, and specialty crafts from local vendors until seven pm tonight.
