The Archdiocese of New York sent a message to its members on Wednesday, announcing that 12 Catholic schools would be shutting their doors after the completion of the 2022-2023 school year.
The full press release, which came from Cardinal Timothy Dolan, mentioned that four other Catholic schools would be merging to make two new schools. They cited “shifting demographics and lower enrollment made worse by the pandemic, particularly in the Bronx” as a contributing factor to the closings, stating that the circumstances have impacted the financial standing of the schools.
The Office of the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of New York will work with the affected families to find neighboring Catholic schools for children to attend in the fall, according to the release.
