So you ready to go, ready to go. Let's do it. And a reminder for our callers tonight. Please do us one favor and mute your TV. Before we hop on because there's a little bit of a delay right there for us. We're gonna start tonight with Liz who's joining us from Highbridge Liz. Thanks for calling in tonight here on News 12. The Bronx. Your turn to ask the borough president. So, what's your question? Good evening. Hi, BRB M. No, M Gibson. I'm calling on the behalf of living in High Bridge as you heard. And the problem is the parking is horrendous. The double parking on and double and parking on the sidewalks and the sidewalks is for us to walk and the double parking is a problem for the emergency people to get through. Well, like you were in High Bridge. Exactly, weren't you? I'm in Hybrid in Athens. Ok. So again, I was gonna say that might help you as far as figuring this out when we talk about that here, double parking and, or no parking on the side, parking on the sidewalk. Yes, 44 precinct. Uh, a lot of it is really about enforcement. If there's a specific time frame, we would like to know so that we can obviously look at that particular pattern. Ogden Avenue is a combination of residential and commercial, small businesses and Ems Station right that we have at the bottom of Ogden. But as you go towards the end by Masco about, it gets a little bit more commercial uh in terms of some of the businesses, there's a school PS 11, the annex is there. So there's a lot happening on the stretch of Ogden Avenue and we wanna make sure that all residents, all pedestrians, Children, older adults, anyone with a mobility disability are safe traveling, crossing at the crosswalks at the intersections and walking on the sidewalk. Cars are not supposed to be on the sidewalk. And so we need to make sure we call 311 document the case and then we can follow up within our office with 31 call complaint and we can call and notify the 44th precinct, but a lot of the traffic enforcement is really the traffic side, not the 44 precinct side, but traffic enforcement which is a borough operation. So we will work with the 44 precinct. I encourage you also to work with your local community board for the 44th Precinct has a monthly meetings as well. Lots of ways to get involved to, to continue to talk about some of the quality of life because that is a safety and a quality of life issue. But we will address that. We will work with the four Fall. We will talk about enforcement and if it's a particular time, please let us know so that we can really identify that because I worry about school Children when PS 11 PS 126 are dismissed, you have a lot of school age Children on the stretch of, of Ogden Avenue. Yeah, need the sidewalks to be safe, that's for sure at all. And no cars would make that a lot easier, Liz. Thank you so much for the question tonight. Thanks for getting us off to a good start. Let's keep it going and let's go to sound view tonight, Miss Etta is joining us tonight, Miss Etta. Thank you for calling in. What's your question for the borough president? Hi, this is this a, um, uh, the VP and I met at, um, the groundbreaking event at South View. Um, and, um, I had on the pink helmet and the pink vest and it said, Miss up. Uh, and with that being said, I wanna bring this question to you because I have a lot of qualified local residents that would like to get, um, work jobs on this project. And other projects. Of course, the prom. But I, I'm also the go to person. I also make sure that they are also qualified and SSP qualified. But I get to get into contact with some of the contractors that's building up all these affordable houses. I had to be with Cambridge when they did the groundbreaking. I haven't heard anything back. I got a stack of um people ready and willing and able to work and it feels like I'm being put in front of a roadblock to get these people who wanna work. All right, Miss Etta, thank you for bringing that up there. And again, she, she's spoken with you about that. I know who she is. Uh very, very impactful credible messenger. Thank you, Miss Etta for the work you've done over the years, not just in sound view but all over the Bronx. And we wanna make sure we're part of those conversations with Camra property and habitat for humanity who are a part of building uh Stevenson square phase one. And we wanna make sure that the local jobs, the MWB provisions are adhered to uh every con fact that has certain provisions depending on the financing that comes with this project and with this package. So we know them, well, the local community board CB nine will work with majority leader Amanda Fadia, all the elected officials and we definitely need to make sure that we're having those conversations now before the actual construction does begin because the residents see it and there's nothing greater than having local hiring opportunities. The young men and women in our communities that are 0 30 qualified need to have opportunities for all these jobs and be a part of building Stevenson Square. So we will connect Miss Ada and we'll make sure that we have those conversations because it's very important to me as it is for my colleagues, as well as all of our developers and our partners because we wanna make sure these projects are community oriented for us and by us matters. Absolutely. All right, Miss, thank you for getting that question in there tonight and for following up. I know you remember her, right, of course. How could you not? Thank you for the question there. We really do appreciate that right there. Um Real quick before we move on here, I wanted to mention something, the Metro North stations, there's a public hearing going on right now as we're sitting here. Um Can you give us any information as far as the, what's the latest, what's been going on? I know we're still years away from these being done but far away. Ok. Well, you have any updates or anything of what's been going on where we're at 2027 is right around the corner, the four Metro North stations, co op City Hunts Point, MS Park and Park Chester Vanness Community Board nine just voted with conditions to support the project. Community board 11 is meeting uh community board two and community board 10 also will weigh in. But specifically Morris Park and Park Chester have an up zoning rezoning attached to it because there's housing that's a part of those two neighborhoods. So we're we're talking, we're meeting, we're having conversations, the elected officials, the council members are involved. At the end of the day, we want this to be a balanced project that will bring Metro North transportation, equity jobs, supporting small businesses, union jobs, career pathways, affordable housing, right? That meets the needs of the neighborhood, maintains the character as well as not displacing anyone in Park Chest or MS Park all about improving the neighborhoods as we talk about with housing or transportation, whatever it might be. All right. Time for more. Ask the borough president right here on news 12 the Bronx and as we do every month, it's time for the borough president's health tip. Yes, health tip. April is child abuse Prevention and Sexual assault Awareness Month. So we are lifting up the voices of anyone who may be a victim of sexual assault or sexual violence. We will be sharing information on social media uh resources not for profit organizations in our borough that are providing these critical services. But also our Bronx district attorney Darcel Clark has a child abuse and sex crimes bureau that prosecutes all misdemeanor and felony sexual assault cases involving both Children and adult victims. If you know someone that is in need of assistance, please call their office at 7188387040. To speak with an advocate and in any emergencies, please always call 911. We are thankful for so many of our advocates out there that fight again and just support so many Children who are victims of child neglect and child abuse. And we wanna make sure that we are preparing our families with any resources that they may need. I know this is an important cause for not just you, but also, as you mentioned, the district Attorney Darcel Clark, uh several events, I'm sure coming up in April and we'll have more information on those as we continue to move forward. You don't just can call in, you can also post over there. We have one of those questions tonight wanted to share with you from one of our viewers. Uh, Pancho Morales asked us on Facebook, why aren't there any crossing guards at 156 and Concourse Village West next to the school zone, the drivers are going down the opposite way. A dangerous situation. This is that road all the way back there, back behind Cardinal Hayes, you know, well, there's like 56 different schools in that one area don't ever go down there if you don't have to pick up somebody during that climate of day. But nonetheless, it is, it could be a very dangerous area. And if there's no crossing guard there, that could be a problem. So first, I'm surprised that there's no crossing guard post there. Now let me look into it and check with the 40 fourth precinct because there could be a crossing guard and that person may have been transferred out sick on vacation. There must could be a vacancy. Usually when that happens, that person is replaced by a police officer, a uniformed member of the service because of the danger. 156 in Concourse Village West, the Mott Haven campus, Cardinal Hayes. There's a charter school, the performance school P S3 85 all of the schools in district seven that are right there at that intersection. Very, very busy. So we will look into that 156 Concourse Village West and make sure that we get a school crossing guard. But can I tell you how much I love school crossing guards? They're amazing. We don't have enough. Always recruiting school crossing guards. Please apply in all more of your calls coming up and we were back.

We're gonna go to Riverdale right now. DJ is calling us DJ. Thanks for calling in. What's your question for the borough president? Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for taking my call. Um Mr President regarding the Tibet Brook Daylighting project in K Park. Can you please give us an update on the progress, especially what's the current status of the project or any new development concerning the ongoing litigation with Metro North? Additionally, we're really curious to know what the restoration of the Van KT Park has not yet begin. Can you please shed a little bit of light on that reason behind that? Thank you so much for your time guys. DJ. Thank you for the questions there as he's looking to shed a little light on the daylighting project. That's a great question and we definitely will follow up to give a much longer answer. But I know that there are still ongoing conversations with the Metro North. Uh the Van Courtland Park Alliance, the local elected officials, uh Many in the community uh community Board eight, very excited about the Tibbetts Park Daylighting project. Uh It was a priority that was announced by the Adams administration uh because we wanna make sure that it is not only fulfilled, but we get real investments and also it will benefit the whole Van Courtland Park, Riverdale Northwest Bronx community. So I will get an update on some of the latest conversations that we're having with our good friends at Metro North. Uh And then we will be able to share that. And also I encourage you to make sure that you stay connect with community board eight as well as our local elected officials in the Northwest Bronx. Absolutely. And DJ, we've got your information. Thank you so much for calling in tonight. What's your question? Yes. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. I wanted to ask the borough president has been two or three times. I've called her office concerning the cleanliness that's near the uh uh botanical gardens. You have the circle that's right underneath the Bronx River Parkway and it's next to the zoo. They just paved it like uh two months a month ago. The only thing is it's pitch black and there's a lot of dirt garbage. And the uh what do they call those? The Jersey, the Jersey barricades, they're all twisted and turned is not repaired and it embarrasses me when I take my family to there. So, is there anything that you could do about it? Oh, absolutely. Thank you for calling in with that great question. Great question. So yes, there is absolutely everything we can do about it. We will talk to the city agencies, Department of Transportation, uh that obviously oversees the lighting, uh department of sanitation with the cleanliness and garbage pickup. And I think you may be talking about uh dot S Bollards, which is some of the um measures that they put in to make sure that pedestrians are safe and the traffic is moving in the right direction and those sometimes get damaged by, you know, out of control and you know, reckless drivers, unfortunately, and we will have dot And Ds Ny go in and we can do a site visit. We'll work with the local community board. Uh All of these spaces are so important and I'm so glad that people are raising these issues because it means you care and I need everyone to understand that this is a shared responsibility. We are responsible as government agencies are responsible. But I also need the residents of our borough to step up and call and make sure that these cases are documented, especially when you call and nothing is done. We wanna make sure that if you're calling offices, you get a response. You see the actual work being done, you see the garbage being picked up, it's clean because that overall contributes to our quality of life as well as the character of our neighborhood. So we will definitely follow up. Absolutely, Risotto, thank you for bringing that up and for letting us know what's been going on there. We're gonna get back to the calls in just a couple of minutes, still time to call in that number right there at the bottom of your screen. But you know, you mentioned people making their voice heard, they're definitely making their voice heard when we talk about what's going on where Bally's links, uh formerly Trump links. Now, Bally's links, the new owners kind of just revealed their first look, kind of at what they expect things may look like. Should they build this resort with a casino? Um Some of the neighbors in the area, not too thrilled, but that's ok. This goes back and forth as it always has with Very Point Park in that situation. Um Have you had a chance to kind of speak to either the team from Bally's or the people in the area kinda get a feel for how things are going over there. So I received an update on the project proposal. Like all of my colleagues that represent the area of throgs neck, uh Friday's meet and greet that was hosted. Valleys was an opportunity for residents of the public to understand what the proposal is. But also to ask questions, obviously, many will be concerned about traffic infrastructure, uh noise pollution, construction, local jobs, how this project is going to benefit Throgs Neck and the Bronx when it comes to economic development, when it comes to union jobs, when it comes to a casino in a community, right? Throgs Neck is still a residential community. I know this is the site of an old landfill. Um I obviously the Bally's uh golf link uh at Ferry point, we have the ferry point, ferry service there. So there's a lot that's happening in the area and we wanna make sure that this project is balanced. Uh Bally's like all the other contenders has to go through a process. There will be three proposals that will be designated for the lower, you know, New York City, Westchester, Long Island region, right? So we're competing with other boroughs as well as Westchester and Long Island. And so when that process happens, as a member of the C AC, I will take a vote on it, but I wanna hear from the residents I wanna hear from the people. What are some of the pros and cons advantages and disadvantages? What are some of the things we wanna see? We wanna make sure our streets are paved. Uh A lot of the thoroughfares are protected. Residents are protected, homeowners are protected, the character of the neighborhood is protected. A casino proposal will have a real impact, right. Good, bad, indifferent, challenging. I see lots of this from both sides. Uh But we will make sure that we continue to engage. I wanna recognize valleys for what they have done. I think the name change at the golf link was was super important and really uh demonstrating that they are willing to be a partner with us. But I wanna make sure that that golf course is open to everyone. I want young people that have an interest in golf to be able to visit the golf link and we wanna make sure that they are real community engagement and community partnerships. So outside of the casino proposal, remember Bally's is a neighbor. Bally's now has the contract here at ferry point uh at the golf link. So we will work with them as it relates to that. But the casino proposal, they have to do their due diligence and work with the community work with all the stakeholders. And so more to come, I think last Friday was a good uh chance for residents to hear the local community board. CB 10 will also be a part of it as well as the elected officials. So I'm interested to hear about, you know, more concerns, more ideas how we can reshape this. If the residents of throgs neck and the Bronx wanna see it, how can we make this proposal better? And again, we just heard from gaming commission this uh on Monday talking about it's gonna be a little bit of a while before we probably, at least still probably 2025 late 2025. So we know who's getting the casino. So plenty of time to talk about this and of course, we will talk about it some more. Another thing I want to talk to you real quick about uh Governor Hole uh this week announcing easier access to birth control. Uh don't need a prescription anymore when we talk about that. What kind of impact do you think this is gonna have specifically for women in our borough? I think as a progressive state as New York is and having the first female governor, it's a recognition of supporting women around reproductive health care and access to birth control, which we know is a form of health care and making it as easy as possible. Obviously, with limitations to make sure that it's available, whether it's over the council or without a prescription. We have far too many states in this country that are denying access to women that need access to reproductive care. And it's a justice issue. It's an equity issue. Many of them are coming here to New York State for services. But as we take care of New Yorkers first, we need to make sure that we, you know, reduce the red tape, we le level the playing field, we make it as easy as possible because reproductive care is health care and is reproductive justice. Um I am proud to be pro choice. I'm proud to work with so many organizations that have always been on the front lines because we wanna make sure that women have autonomy over their body over the choices they make about their own reproductive health. So I wanna applaud governor cal the hole for making it easier to access birth control for making it easier to really fight for reproductive justice because there is so many women in our state that sometimes don't feel that access is there and whether you have insurance or not, whether you're documented or not, we wanna make sure that we open up and avail these critical services and the wrap around services to all women across our state. And all of this, of course, coming during women's history month and very appropriate. And you guys have been busy whether it be uh honoring Bronx sites at Hostos. I know you and your office uh honored Bronx sites as well this month. Can you tell us a little bit about some of, you know, not just the events you had, but you know why you chose some of the women that you did to honor. So we love women's history mom. It's a recognition of all the great things that women have always done on the front lines and women have not always been recognized. So we were able to honor incredible leaders like Lisette Ritz from Green Bronx Machine, our very own president of Wholesales Community College, Doctor Daisy Coco di Felipe, as well as uh one of our amazing principal, Doctor Rashawn Alt Lee. Uh And we had an amazing MC. We had a great spoken word artist. We honored one of our RNS Jacquelyn um uh Witter from Saint Barnabas Hospital System. Those were our honorees as well as our youth honoree from Renaissance Youth Center, the National Steam Competition winner, a young lady. That's doing amazing things in the Bronx High school student. We honor young people in all of our events, but women's history every day. We must always lift up women because we need to be in all spaces so that our little girls can see the possibilities, honoring these incredible women there for their contributions, not just to the Bronx, but to the city in general. Uh Let's go to East Chester right now. We've got Leola joining us, Leola. Thanks for calling in. What's your question for the BP? My question is that I've been a secretary for the board here for 21 years. So I'm a P accounting secretary. So I register students. So I'm just curious to know are they phasing out district 75 schools because we have a population that should be in district 75 but a lot of them are coming to the community school for the last two years. So I just wanted to get your perception on that. Are they trying to phase out district 75? Because as we know in our school as a community schools, the teachers are not trained for that. So they're doing a disservice to the teachers as well as the students where the students would be better served in the district 75. So after two years of this population being registered, I'm curious to know is the border trying to phase out district 75 schools. Leo. Thank you for the call for the question there. Thank you for your service. We really appreciate it on behalf of all of our New York City public school Children. As far as I know. Absolutely not. There is no plan to get rid of D 75 schools. I work closely with our superintendent and all of our D 75 schools in the Bronx Elementary, middle and high school. And we do a tremendous amount of work supporting our scholars and families. I have allocated thousands of dollars for upgrades to D 75 schools and we'll continue to do that in this budget for fy 25. Um I recognize the challenge and I would say that we wanna work closely with our C ecs um specifically the parent leaders and our school leadership teams. When it comes to some of the programs that scholars are in and what best meets their needs. If they need to be in D 75 then that's something that we obviously need to push because D 75 is very tailored to deal with students that may have an IEP that may have some sort of an additional need, right? I don't like use the word special need but additional needs um because they have such promise, such potential, they are amazing students and they just need additional support. So I would love to talk offline specifically of any school districts that you may think where we have the greatest need if it's East Chester district 11, not sure if it's that district, but definitely let's keep talking because I wanna make sure that d 75 scholars get the support they need. But also those that may be in community schools are also getting the supports that they need as well. I'm a big firm believer in the community schools model. I believe it works. I wanna make sure every school has a full time nurse, a social worker, a guidance counselor. I'm very supportive of that. I was a part of the bridging the gap social workers when I was in the city council because we have so many students in temporary housing in our borough. And when in my district, when I represented was district nine at the time, we wanna make sure that we address that. So that's something that we are always talking about, but I would love to speak offline specifically about the community schools in district 75 for sure. And we want to make sure the kids have what they need. Leola. Welcome to you. Thank you so much for calling with the question. Let's keep it rolling. We got Sandra joining us right now from Mott Haven. Sandra. Thank you so much for calling in. What is your question for the borough president? Thank you very much. I'm kind of concerned about the number of rats. I'm I'm seeing outside in the evening time. I don't even go out there in the evening time. I'm so paranoid of rats and I would say if they're, that, if they're outside like that, it's just a matter of time before they're in the apartment. No. Absolutely. That, that senator thank you for calling in and bringing that up. We usually do get at least one caller but wondering about the rats and what's going on with that situation, Mott Haven though. That's the situation. She's absolutely. So, you know how Mayor Eric Adams feels about rats, right. We hate rats and he has hired uh a rat czar um to focus on mitigating rats and making sure that we look at how we dispose of garbage, both commercial and residential. A lot of new efforts around commercial um disposal of trash uh containerization programs, pilots that started in parts of the city that will expand to the Bronx, making sure that garbage is disposed and put out at a certain time to reduce the likelihood of rats, rats feed off of food and garbage. And ultimately, that's people. So how we dispose of trash is equally as important residential. We need to make sure that we're working with proper owners, building owners, management companies on the disposal of garbage. We hear a lot from families and residents that live on the first floor. You look out the window, the garbage is right there, not acceptable. So how we dispose of garbage is important. The pick up and the frequency is equally as important using trash receptacles. So specifically in Mott Haven Community Board one, we wanna work with our local uh district manager at board one. We wanna work with the elected officials. We can bring in the rats are who does all the mitigation work and has a real city wide plan on mitigation. We have uh rat schools that we host where we bring in a lot of the experts from the health department and we have workshops and forums for residents on what we can do, right? Because we're a part of the solution as well, not just owners, not just building managers, but we have to take a hold of this as well and the responsibility that we play. So I wanna definitely talk more specifically about Mott Haven community board one. But overall, this is a borough priority. I mean, no one likes rats and we wanna make sure that we get rid of them, but we also have to contain our garbage and make sure it's disposed of properly in the right way so that it doesn't uh exacerbate more rats. We're waiting on our library to be redone. It's been out of commission since before COVID and it doesn't have really a projected sign on it. So it'd be nice to have it for the community. What do you think? A thank you for calling in. Great, great question. I agree with you. It's long overdue. Let us check with NYPL, New York Public Library. It could be AD DC project department of Design and Construction. Let us find out where we are and we can talk to the local council member, the local community board as well to find out where that particular branch is. Overall. A lot of our branches are under renovation, brand new reg gut everything you can think of, but obviously timing is key and I think it may have been slowed down during a pandemic, but now that that's behind us, let's figure out the time frame. They got everything right there for you. Uh Bronx week coming up, anything, any new updates for us on that. So the uh People's Choice Award in Health, we've extended the deadline until this Friday at 12 p.m. You can still sign up and uh form us of who your recommendation is. Who your nominee is for your health care hero Shero. And again, the announced winner will be presented at our Bronx Walk of Fame 2024. And you got state of the borough coming up Thursday, April 18th at 5:30 p.m. At Cardinal Hayes High School. We're gonna have wonderful announcements on new initiatives, new programs, investments, health care, housing, economic development, stay tuned.
