An undercover investigation involving two federal law enforcement agencies led to a police shooting in Hamilton Township, authorities say.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office says the shooting occurred Monday around 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the Krauszer's Food Store on Greenwood Avenue.
The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were conducting the investigation.
The prosecutor’s office says the preliminary investigation suggests a suspect got into a vehicle with an undercover officer when the suspect got into an altercation with two federal officers. The prosecutor’s office says an officer’s weapon was discharged.
The suspect, a Trenton man in his 20s, fled on foot and ended up at a hospital, where authorities say he’s in critical but stable condition with a gunshot wound.
The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at the direction of the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Authorities say there are no charges filed, and no additional injuries that they are aware of.
