15h agoOfficials say strong winds could lead to more possible brushfires because of the ongoing dry conditions.
They're urging Long Islanders to follow the burning restriction to keep everyone safe. A state burn ban is in effect through Nov. 30.
“People have to be careful don’t throw your cigarettes out. Riverhead is in a state of an emergency. No fires at all. People have to be vigilant,” said J.R Renten Chief, of the Riverhead Fire Department.
