Friday marked the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
The Bed Stuy Sluggers celebrated the day with baseball clinics for players aspiring to reach Robinson level.
The celebration kicked off with dance performances and a drum line before Council Member Chi Osse threw out the first pitch.
Residents say the celebration of Jackie Robinson Day is particularly important in the Bed Stuy community, since he spent his career playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
