Gerom Solis is on a mission to represent his native country of Honduras during the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
The champion track star who attended South Bronx Preparatory has already been awarded a scholarship at Iona.
Earlier in June, Solis won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Central American championships in El Salvador, representing Honduras.
But the athlete says he wants to represent his native country in a bigger way.
"It's like the best feeling, representing the nation you were born, it’s the best feeling, it's a big accomplishment to represent your nation," Solis says.
He has his eyes set on the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Solis says Honduras only sends one sprinter from the entire country to represent the nation during the games.
However, the former 2016 athlete who represented Honduras, Rolando Polacios, is retiring.
"He keeps writing me, encouraging me to be better than him, he just retired right now," Solis says.
Solis says he will have to compete against Polacios' cousin who is also looking to represent Honduras during the games.
