You could say Yevgenia Strenger was practically born with a violin in hand -- after all, her mother was a violinist.
"I remember being taken to my mother's orchestra rehearsals when I was really little," Strenger says.
From rehearsals to summer concerts at the park with mom, the Ukrainian native would go on to study the string instrument from the age of 6 and well into her 20s.
"Something that was mine, it was natural," she says.
Her raw talent and years of dedication would help her land a seat with the New York City Opera, where she met her husband, a violinist and Bronx native.
Strenger has played over 30 years with the city opera and is also a member of the New York City Ballet.
Her most recent project is with the Philharmonia Orchestra of New York.
Symphonic Storyboards is a live orchestra performance alongside video adaptations that were chosen in a film competition.
"I'm very excited to see what they come up with," she says.
Strenger has some advice for young musicians thinking about picking up a violin. "It's not easy, and it could be very awkward, but if you don't give up, you will be very, very gratified."
The unique show will be coming to city theaters for a limited time in March and April.
