A contractor from Bethel has been charged in a fatal construction accident that happened in Mamaroneck, New York.
Michael Conway was charged with negligent homicide in the 2021 death of Jose Vega. Vega was a day laborer hired to help dig a trench at a construction site in Mamaroneck.
The 9-foot-deep trench then collapsed, burying Vega alive.
Investigators say the trench did not have the bracing to prevent cave-ins that Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations require on all trenches deeper than 5 feet.
