A new bill in the state Legislature aims to prevent non-electric vehicles from parking in spots designated for EV charging through fines.

Those who drive electric vehicles sometimes find that charging stations can fill up faster than their batteries.

Some say what's even more irritating is finding a non-EV parked in a charging spot.

A bill that an Assembly committee advanced on Monday calls for stricter laws for motor vehicle drivers who park at EV charging locations.

How strict? A violation is punishable by a fine of $50 or more.

The proposed bill comes after complaints from many EV drivers.

It says parking in front of a charging station is equivalent to blocking a gas pump, except there are far more gas stations.
