A new development on land owned by the New York Botanical Garden includes a hotel, residential space and retail units, but could put a longstanding supermarket out of business.

The garden is seeking proposals from developers to build on the southeast corner of Webster Avenue and Bedford Park Boulevard.

The potential project already has the support of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Councilman Ritchie Torres, but it could force the closure of a supermarket that has stood at the location for years.

Garden officials say there is a possibility that the store could stay if the supermarket and new developer work out terms for a renewed lease. The current lease agreement is about to expire.

The garden will continue to accept proposals until March and make a decision a short time later.
