A 29-year-old man from Bridgeport was found fatally shot and two others were wounded early Saturday morning near an intersection in the city, Bridgeport police said.
Police and medics responded near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street around 1:40 a.m. after a report of shots fired. They say shots rang out as a crowd was filing out of nearby bar.
"We’re not sure exactly what led to the shooting -- but we do believe we have multiple shooters, and some shots were being fired back and forth between two different groups,” said Lt. Chris Lemaine.
The 29-year-old victim, identified as Dominique Jones, was “found in a parking lot located at the northeast corner of the intersection” and appeared to be shot to death, according to police.
A 27-year-old man, Craig Langston, of Bridgeport, had a gunshot wound to his back and is listed in serious condition. Langston is Jones' brother. A 24-year-old Derby man, Trevor DeFrancesco, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Jones’ family spoke with News 12’s Frank Recchia this morning. The victim's mother, Samantha Jones, says she wants justice. She says Dominique was a positive, hard-working young person with his whole life ahead of him.
"He was taken away from me," she said.
The Detective Bureau Homicide Squad is leading the investigation.
Connecticut’s elected leaders told News 12 that they incident highlights the need to get more illegal guns off the street.
"That is one of the great objectives. We need to have to stop this loss of life, blood, futures,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal.
