Student athletes and coaches said their experience going there, along with the 15-hour flight, was more than worth it.

The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School’s boys basketball team spent the last week in China on a trip that included culture, new experiences and basketball. The boys brought home the gold in a tournament against teams from across the globe.

Into news. 12 New York for your weather too because we're gonna have a lot of updates coming up over the next couple of days as we are on storm watch, heading towards the weekend, rain is gonna be an issue. Let's check in with storm watch teams. Hoo sei right now to find out how much of an issue it's gonna be. Yeah, Kurt, you know, we're dealing with the rain and we're also dealing with the high wind. So here's the top stories through the weekend. So we're dealing with a nice warm up. That's something that you can enjoy. In the meantime, Friday and Saturday, Gusty storms are to follow on our Sunday and then falling temperatures by Monday. So let's get into the next couple of days high as tomorrow near 48 degrees, 55 on, on Saturday and then 61 on Sunday. But look where those temperatures crash mid to upper forties on our Monday and even cooler by the midweek. But again, we're talking about the rain. That's why we are on storm watch. Again. We're tracking some steady rainfall arriving Sunday afternoon and even taking us into Monday morning. So let's time it out on your future Cast Sunday, it is gonna start off dry. Then we see those temperatures climbing into the upper fifties. Low sixties, some light rain start then a random and, and then it starts to pick up in intensity by the evening hours. So this is around midnight. You're seeing temperatures still near 60 degrees and you're seeing the darker shades of green and yellow, good indicated for some soaking rain And even the high winds will start picking up in intensity through this time frame. But look how quickly those temperatures crash from the sixties to the mid forties by Monday morning. Even though that the rain is pushing out of here, we're still gonna be dealing with some standing water and some gusty winds. So your Monday morning commute will still be impacted Monday afternoon. It is drier temperatures in the mid to upper forties, even cooler by Monday evening. But again, back to those high winds, 40 to 50 MPH really going to be any concern as well as the rain. We're talking about 1 to 2.5 inches of rainfall. It's all good and I don't mean Rainbow.

Bronx basketball team returns from China with gold medals 

Well, a basketball team from right here in the Bronx spent last week in China on a trip that included plenty of culture and plenty of wins. News twelve's Dan Sain has the story from Pelham Bay. It's a celebration today at the Earl Monroe New Renaissance basketball school in Pelham Bay after their basketball team returns from China where they won gold in a basketball tournament featuring teams from all over the world that gold medal winning performance. Obviously a large reason for the celebration at the school here on Wednesday. But students and players coaches we spoke with also talked a lot about the experience of traveling to China. Yes, a long 15 hour commute from the Bronx all the way there, but they said it was more than worth it, learning so much on and off the basketball court. China is like, you know, something that you only dream of going on. Uh and it was a great experience I think for me, um I've kind of been traveling all summer, um you know, training NBA guys and stuff like that. Uh So it was, it was a lot, they went to China, they represented America in an international tournament. They were the only team from this country and they won the gold. Is also telling me that almost 40 years ago, Earl Monroe, who obviously this school was named after, went to China himself, bringing a group of fellow former NBA all stars there. They were victorious in their competition. That was 40 years ago. And then when you fast forward 40 years here we are the Earl Monroe school in the Bronx winning a championship of their own in Pelham Bay. I'm Dan Serafin News.
