October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson is extending a helping hand for New Yorkers in need.
Gibson launched a 31 days of action campaign in the Bronx on Monday that will offer the community resources and the help they need to reverse what she is calling a public health crisis.
"She used to hide for us not to see when those things would happen, but I would see her in the morning when she was up to send us to school how her face was, how her hair was, and I'm talking about I was 4, 5 or 6 years old," said Assemblymember Yudelka Tapia as she recounted her personal story with domestic violence as a child.
The borough president says the NYPD has seen a 59% increase in domestic violence offenders from 2021 to 2022. BP Gibson says the Bronx is leading citywide in intimate partner homicides.
