After sharing the story of being denied the chance to attend his end-of-school field trip with News 12, John Astre tells us that some positive news has come from the ordeal.
News 12 reached out to the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park in East Rutherford, NJ, the destination of P.S. 9's field trip for students to cap off the year, and park officials personally reached out to Astre's family to invite them to an outing at the park. His family has said he was left off the trip because of his weight.
News 12 caught up with John and his mother Shatia just moments after he graduated Wednesday morning.
"I know this cannot fix the problem, it definitely doesn't fix the situation - but it definitely helps the problem, and that means so much," Shatia Astre said. "I felt that it was a blessing from God that he didn't want me to be left out."
John and his family will be heading over to American Dream this week with his family, and say they are looking forward to enjoying this experience together.
