A Bronx community is in mourning over the sisters who died after they were pulled off Coney Island waters this holiday weekend.
Authorities identified the two as Aisha and Zainab Mohammed, of the Bronx.
Family, friends and neighbors gathered in at a Mosque in Mount Hope Sunday night to mourn and pray for the two sisters.
"I cannot even describe no words that can come from my mind because it's something that you never experience. So when you see it, you just freak out," said the girls' father, Mohammad Ahmed Faye. He also recounted to News 12 how he felt when he saw their bodies.
"They needed me at the beach. I said, 'What's going on?' They said, 'We just want you here right now,'" he recalled.
The girls' uncle, Ibrahim Madaha, told News 12 it was a group of eight cousins that went to the beach that day and only six came back home.
"They called him and said they couldn't find them in the water. So I quickly rushed to the precinct," Madaha said.
He added the girls never caused any trouble and were scholar students.
"Very nice, good girls. They obeyed their parents and did everything right...They are all honor students at the school," Madaha said.
Elders in the community also told News 12 this was not just a loss of life for the family. The entire community is filled with grief from the precious lives lost.
The funeral service for Aisha and Zainab Mohammad are scheduled for Tuesday 9:30 a.m. at the Yankasa Masjid Mosque.
