The NYPD officers who fatally shot a man, and then accidently killed a
detective in Edenwald in 2019 will not be prosecuted, according to the Bronx
District Attorney.
An investigation found that Det. Brian Mulkeen got into a struggle with
27-year-old Antonio Williams after a police chase.
Prosecutors say Williams was shot and killed, and then at least one other
officer fired shots, which hit and killed Mulkeen.
Williams did have a loaded gun on him during the encountered, but the gun was
not fired.
Williams’ parents and attorney say the decision not to prosecute in
unacceptable.
They say Williams was waiting outside for a taxi on the evening of the
shooting, and ended up killed by unjust and reckless actions of officers from
around 60 feet away.
Sean Williams, father of Antonio Williams, say they w ant the officers to be
fired
“Almost two years later, still mourning, still waiting for answers,” Sean
Williams says. “Today we received no answers. We received the exact things that
a lot of families have received, nothing but excuses.”
The family field a civil lawsuit against the NYPD and New York City in
November.
