Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark wants guns off of the streets and she will be hosting a gun buyback event at St. Lukes Episcopal Church.
People can turn in guns and get money. It is $25 per gun and if it’s a handgun or assault-style semi-automatic, it’s $200 and an iPad.
You can drop them off, no questions asked, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church located at 777 East 22nd St. and Barnes Avenue.
Clark hung signs in the area to let neighbors know about it.
The Yankees helped make this happen saying, “We continually strive to find creative ways to positively impact our neighbors in the Bronx, and this program generates clear and immediate benefits toward making our community safer. We offer our thanks to all those involved in bringing it to fruition."
The DA’s office says there were 315 shootings in the Bronx and 377 injuries. Shootings in the Bronx are up from last year.
Law enforcement says events like these are key to getting guns off the streets.
They say no one will ask about the guns being dropped off, whether they were obtained legally, or not. All guns will be accepted.
