A new medical facility offering Bronx residents more access to care is less than two weeks away from opening.
Dr. Denise Nuñez says she is looking forward to opening the doors to Dr. Urgent Medical Care, her new facility in Belmont.

"The Bronx deserves a place like this. It’s not only downtown Manhattan to have a five-star clinic, people in the Bronx deserve a place like that to come,” says Dr. Nuñez.

The urgent care center will offer anything from a simple check-up to something more extensive like checking the oxygen level in blood.

The pediatric intensivist says her training makes her equipped to deal with critical patients and emergency medical situations

"We can take care of patients that are very critical and stabilize them. We can put in central lines, we can take over respiration and sedate them,” says Dr. Nuñez.

However, the soon-to-be opening of the center didn't come without obstacles.

“When I decided to open first my clinic and then now this urgent care, I found a ton of walls,” says Dr. Nuñez. “First you’re a woman, it’s really tough to do this. Not only a woman but a Latina."

Those walls were only stepping stones for the high-quality medical attention she hopes to bring to the streets of the Bronx

The facility will be open with doctors on site 24 hours a day when it opens Jan. 15.
