A Bronx family says they have video surveillance of their puppy being attacked by a pit bull, and they want the dog’s owner to come forward.
Dolores Roberts-Bunch said she witnessed the attack on her 8-month-old Yorkie Shih Tzu mix named Bardi on Sunday.
“That image remains in my thoughts constantly. Knowing when I open the door that Bardi is not there to greet me or to not even hear her bark is something that is very hard to live with,” she says.
Roberts-Bunch showed News 12 video of a large dog off of its leash clenching its mouth on the small breed and shaking it like a toy.
"She suffered a fractured jaw, her wind pipe was closing, her lungs were punctured and she had trauma to her head,” says Roberts-Bunch.
The family made the decision to put their puppy to sleep, and along with grieving, they say they were left with expensive medical bills that they say the owner of the attacker should be responsible for.
The New York City Health Department asks all owners to keep their dogs on a leash. Because the incident was between two animals, it is considered a civil matter.
