Bronx native Andre Brown was released from prison two years ago after spending more than two decades behind bars. Brown has maintained his innocence since he was charged with attempted murder of two people in 1999. “Being able to hug my loved ones at any given moment, laugh with them without restrictions," said Brown. He served a total of 23 years behind bars until a Supreme Court judge overturned his conviction, citing ineffective counsel. The now 48-year-old father of two is facing the possibility of going back to prison. “It haunted me, what’s happening now is a nightmare," he says. Now the only person who can keep Brown from that fate is Gov. Kathy Hochul. On Wednesday night, the Bronx District Attorney's Office agreed to a one month stay for Brown so the clemency review can take place.
