Supporters of a man who killed himself after being wrongly imprisoned gathered outside a Manhattan detention complex to ask for reforms.

Kalief Browder, 21, committed suicide at his home in the Bronx Saturday. He was wrongly jailed for three years awaiting trial for a robbery he didn't commit before the charges were dropped.

Browder was 16 years old when his brother says correction officers and imprisoned gang members at Rikers Island beat and abused him. 

Those gathered for the vigil seek to have teens removed from older populations in prisons.

Browder reportedly told his mother he "wanted to be a boy again" shortly before killing himself, according to family members. They say his imprisonment with older inmates was so traumatic it drove him to suicide.
