The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is suggesting that people receive flu shots amid a growing epidemic that has claimed the lives of 15 children this season.
The CDC says at least 36 states have current influenza levels approaching peak levels last seen two years ago.
The CDC says this year's strain of H3N2 has mutated, causing vaccinations to be less than optimal for protection.
Even though a flu shot may not completely prevent coming down with the virus, officials still highly recommend getting one.
The CDC is expected to release its latest figures on how widespread the flu has become this Monday.
