A topping out ceremony occurred on Tuesday to mark the halfway point in construction of an apartment building that will eventually house more than 100 apartments for Bronx seniors.
The Andrews Avenue South Senior Residence is the newest supportive housing site made possible by volunteers of America’s Greater New York region.
The project will have 118 apartments in all, 27 of them reserved for chronically homeless seniors.
"They need an opportunity, they need someone to invest in them, to give them the opportunities they really need to live fruitful and productive lives as they are older New Yorkers." Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson.
Building officials expect construction to be completed by this time next year.
