New York City’s school buses and squad cars will be a lot quieter in the future, as the City Council voted in favor of a requirement that the city buy only zero-emission vehicles starting in 2025.
“With this legislation, we’ll become the largest municipality in the country to require the conversion of its fleet to zero-emission vehicles,” said Councilmember Keith Powers. “This is a huge step for cleaner air and our greener future.”
The new rule also requires the city to make sure that its entire vehicle fleet is zero-emission by 2035.
