The Mayor Adams administration informed New Yorkers about resources that the Department of Probation has available for those who are on probation or have a loved one who is.
Juanita Holmes, the commissioner of the DOP, says probation serves as an alternative to incarceration, focusing on preventing people from returning to jails.
The Neighborhood Opportunity Network, also known as NEON, is one of many resources that helps those on probation. It offers options in the arts, athletics and more.
“For many years in this country… we look at it as arresting people as the only way to actually keep order,” said Deputy Mayor of New York City for Public Safety Philip Banks. “In reality… so many of these people can be saved if we give them the proper resources.”
