The city is proposing a new rule that would raise the fine for illegal dumping by thousands of dollars.

News 12 went to Seabury and Westchester avenues and saw trash there Friday morning. Viewers called News 12 about illegal dumping there back in July.

The rule would increase the penalty from $1,000 to $5,000.

It would add a $10,000 fine for each additional violation within a 12-month period.

The city says people can submit comments through Oct, 9. A public hearing will be held the same day.

Residents in the area are hoping for change and say they are still concerned about the situation at West Chester Square.
