The Kingsbridge Armory has been sitting vacant for close to three decades. After failed attempts to turn it into a shopping mall and an ice-skating rink, the city is now looking for help from the outside for its redevelopment.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation has released a Request for Proposals in search of qualified developers to take over the project.
Any prospective proposals must follow the Together for Kingsbridge Vision Plan, which is backed by a $200 million budget from the city and state and outlines the key priorities of the community.
"I would boil that down into two major priorities that I heard from the community," said Bronx Councilmember Pierina Sanchez, one of the spearheads of the project. "One, it needs to serve the youth; two, it needs to produce good paying job."
The submission deadline for the proposals is January 2024.
