WHAT TO KNOW:
  • Windy and cold today
  • Monday's storm stays to our south, but a few bands of snow could bring a coating of snow
  • Very cold & windy behind this. Feels like teens and 20s Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
  • Coldest day is Thursday
It's the first winter storm of the new year, but do we see any flakes in our area? Here's the latest.
A large storm will pass through our south, but cold and dry air is also moving in. We're anticipating minor impacts to the Monday afternoon or evening commute because of passing snow showers and a dry remainder of the work week.
A fresh batch of cold air is moving in today and that means plenty of wind. High temperatures will be steady in the low to mid 30s, but with wind gusts up to 30 mph this afternoon, it’ll feel like it's only in the low 20s.
Monday's Storm
A large storm will pass to our south tomorrow just as dry and cold air is trying to push in. A few flurries are expected on Monday morning with light snow showers on and off throughout the day. The best chance for snow will start in the late morning and that risk will remain for the afternoon. The biggest impact from this storm will be during the evening commute on Monday, but little to no accumulations are expected.
Farther to our south, this storm will bring significant snow accumulations. Although we have high confidence that the storm will be a miss for us, check back for updates because if the storm takes a more northerly route, snow will be more impactful.
What's Next?
It's a cold week with no warmup in sight. Although temperatures will be below the climatological average, it's nothing extreme for this time of the year. The problem is the wind. Highs will struggle to get above freezing and low temperatures will hover on other side of 20F. It will feel like it's in the teens most of the afternoon. The good news is this cold weather comes with dry air. After Monday's storm passes, there are no major snowstorms for the rest of the work week.
Another storm will likely threaten next weekend, but it's too early to determine what, if any impact that will have on Saturday. In the meantime, we are keeping the chance for snow showers in the forecast next Saturday.
TODAY: A mix of sun and clouds with a stray flurry possible. Windy. Gusts over 30 mph. Highs in the mid 30s, feels like low to mid 20s.
TONIGHT: A few clouds. Cold. Lows in the low to mid 20s, feels like teens.
MONDAY: STORM WATCH. Cloudy with snow flurries in the early morning and a few snow showers in the afternoon. Highs near 30.
TUESDAY - THURSDAY: Dry, cold, and windy with highs near 30 and lows near 20.
END OF WEEK: Less cold, watching Saturday. Low confidence in winter weather.
