The school formerly known as the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale is celebrating its latest name change.
It is now named University of Mount Saint Vincent, a title given by the New York State Board of Regents.
The school celebrated their university status on Monday at the school's Riverdale campus. Students held up miniature "USMV" flags for the unveiling of their new name.
"I know I am going to be very proud to be one of the first classes in the university of Mount Saint Vincent History," said Orangel Mejia, student body president.
Along with the name change, the university will incorporate other schools and colleges under the university umbrella.
This is not the first time the school has changed its name. It was originally known as the Academy of Mount Saint Vincent, the first established higher education organization for young women in New York. It was changed to College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1911.
