The new leader of Community Board 7 says he plans to improve the lives of people living in his area.
Andrew Sandler is the 29-year-old new district manager.
"I think often in this job, we're seen as bureaucrats or paper pushers," Sandler says. "I am a real person."
One of the first measures he says he'll take is to reach out to residents who may have felt neglected in the past.
"I want to move all of our board meetings all around the district, so everyone feels like we're coming to their community," Sandler says.
The district includes Bedford Park, Norwood, Kingsbridge Heights and parts of University Heights and Fordham.
Sandler succeeds Dustin Engelken, who resigned for personal reasons. Some of his past governmental experience includes working on projects like the renovation of Williamsbridge Oval Park.
Another of his current projects includes opening the Jerome Park Reservoir to the public.
