Commuters around the city seem split on how they feel about the proposed fare hikes ahead of the decision by the MTA Wednesday.
Under the MTA’s new proposal, commuters can expect an overall increase of fares and tolls.
Riding the bus or train would now cost $2.90 instead of $2.75 and two options have been proposed for tolls. The first option says all tolls rate would increase by 7% and the second option says E-ZPass members would see a 6% toll increase, while non-E-ZPass users would be noticing a 10% increase.
"The fair fare program enrolls hundreds and thousands of New Yorkers in a half fare program for people living below the poverty line,” said Riders Alliance’s Danny Peralstein.
The MTA says they are returning to increasing fares and tolls comes after a brief pause during the pandemic.
