This Sunday is Daylight Savings, and New Yorkers will be losing an hour of sleep – but before you change your clock, Con Edison has tips to make your home more energy-efficient.
First, Con Edison suggests tweaking your thermostat to be colder when it’s below 68 degrees and setting it higher when it's warmer to save up to 5% on your energy bill.
They also suggest replacing any dated heating and cooling systems, adding that any that are over 10 years old may be making your home less energy-efficient.
Lastly, Con Edison says well-maintained HVAC systems, furnaces and hot water heaters improve energy efficiency, too.
Customers receiving qualifying government assistance benefits, including Medicaid and SNAP, could be eligible for discounts up to $178 on their monthly energy bills. Click here to learn more on ways to save on your energy bill.
