With significant upgrades underway at the Owen Dolen Recreation Center, event organizers are in need of a new space to hold community events.
Construction on the $2.3 million construction project started last Thursday. The facility's event calendar will be at a stand-still for at least the next 18 months.
The project on the century-old building includes plans to replace the windows, doors, roof and exterior walls. Community organizers see the need for the repairs and improvements, but say they are worried they will not find another location to host their events.
Over the years, the venue has hosted New York City summer camps, Halloween festivals, Christmas parties with Santa, give-back events and supply drives.
