Dozens of constituents gathered at a local church in support of Councilman Andy King Thursday to defend him against harassment allegations.
King remains in the hot seat with the City Council, but he continues to say those allegations are false.
On Thursday, his family and supporters came together at the North Bronx Seven Day Adventist Church to stand with him, where he spoke about those harassment charges.
Last month, the City Council's Ethics Committee voted to charge King with disorderly conduct, sexual harassment, retaliation and conflict of interest. In April, News 12 learned he was accused of creating a hostile work environment and trying to retaliate against employees. There are also allegations involving his wife that the City Council confirmed, stating she was accused of harassing one of King's staffers.
Last year, he was forced to take sensitivity training following accusations from a female staff member. But even after these charges against him, King stands by his innocence.
"They're lies, they're not accurate, they're disingenuous, they've been manipulative. Telling the people to kill my character, that I'm not this good person that the Lord created me to be, or son of my father. It's not in my DNA to be mean, nasty and horrible to people, but give service. From the children that I serve, from the seniors that I work with, to the NYCHA developments I helped improve," says King.
The Committee on Standards and Ethics held a disciplinary hearing on Friday. The Bronx councilman was not at Friday's hearing, but spoke out about the proceedings. King claims he and his lawyer were not given enough time by the investigating committee to properly defend against the allegations.
The committee isn't commenting on the investigation. Once a decision is reached, the findings are expected to be made public.
