New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has a plan to make crossing the MTA's bridges and tunnels in the state easier.
The state is going to adopt "open road tolling" under the governor's plan, which aims to reduce congestion and increase traffic flow by eliminating toll booths and implementing automatic tolling.
Other parts of Cuomo's plan include a surge in security personnel at bridges and tunnels, 500-year flood barriers in tunnels, a full seismic retrofit for bridges and dusk-to-dawn LED lighting.
Officials say automatic tolling is projected to save commuters up to 21 hours of drive time each year.
