The Department of Environmental Protection is inspecting and cleaning catch basins and sewers across the city to ensure proper drainage during for Tropical Storm Fay.
The actions are part of the city's flash flood emergency plan.
"A day or two before making sure that all of the catch basins in key areas, particularly commercial areas. We make sure that they are cleaned so that they can drain the streets properly,” says Vincent Sapienza, of the Department of Environmental Protection.
There is a couple dozen catch basins all over the city and when there's heavy rain they get full and clogged.
DEP crews have been out doing the work since Thursday in preparation for the storm.
