Detectives killed in Bed-Stuy shooting remembered 6 years later
Sunday marks the sixth anniversary of the murder of two New York City detectives in Bed-Stuy.
Detectives Rafael Ramos and Wen-Jian Liu were fatally shot as they sat in their patrol car near the corner of Myrtle and Tompkins avenues.
Maritza Ramos, the widow of Rafael Ramos, says she wants to continue the detectives' legacy by giving back to the community.
She was in attendance at a toy giveaway Saturday in honor of her husband and Liu.
Maritza Ramos says it's taking time to heal.
"We're doing better, we doing better," Maritza says. "It does get a little easier but the pain never goes away."
Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey also remembered the officer, saying it's tough each year.
"These two men were such good men," Maddrey says. "They were really into serving the community, to taking care of their families and just being good friends to one another and their peers at the 84th Precinct."
A memorial with photos has been placed along the area where the detectives were killed.
