Developer revamps deteriorating buildings

Tenants of four buildings in University Heights gathered Monday to celebrate repairs they've been seeking for years.
Their buildings have racked up thousands of housing violations over the past few decades. They were known for their mold problems, rotting walls and broken lights.
When the Workforce Housing Group took over 2323 Creston Ave. five years ago, the complex had been ranked one of the worst buildings in New York by city regulators.
Now, renovations have removed the mold and bugs and installed new security cameras. Residents say their homes are almost unrecognizable.
The developers say that the work is an example that deteriorating buildings are redeemable.
And if it can be done in University Heights, they say it can be done all over the city.
